GLE2010F/G: Introduction to Public Policy

Public Policy @ Huron

In 2022, Huron’s Governance, Leadership & Ethics (GLE) program introduced a new stream of courses focused on public policy. This work was made possible through a generous donation from a Huron alumnus.

In GLE2010: Introduction to Public Policy, students learn the fundamentals of public policy and policy making in Canada while also producing original research on a policy topic of their choice. Working in small teams, GLE students have now written dozens of policy white papers — some of which have been shared directly with decision makers at all levels of government in Canada.

An example of this work is a class co-authored paper on local economic impacts of federal policy changes to reduce the number of international students in Canada (see paper here) as part of the Impact Lab Partnership. A new repository of student policy research papers is in developed through Huron Research.

Students are also invited to participate in small conversational roundtables with visiting experts, guest speakers and community leaders on campus.
