More than 330 people have served as first minister (prime minister or premier) in Canada, and yet only 17 have been women. Female leaders share a concerning pattern to in their stories: they rise when stakes are highest; they lead for about half as long as men; and, when they run for re-election, they lose. Canadians have (still) never re-elected a female first minister to lead through a second mandate.
Enter No Second Chances.
In 2019, Kate Graham and the Canada 2020 team set out to understand this pattern. They travelled from coast to coast to coast to meet the women who have lived these experiences.
This work has been shared through two podcast seasons, three books and speaking events across the country.
